Melissa Errico Masterclass

The Stephen Sondheim Society would like to express its gratitude to Broadway star Melissa Errico for taking time out of her schedule to conduct a masterclass for some of the finalists of the upcoming SSSSSPOTY competition.

The masterclass was held in front of an audience at the Carne Studio in the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA) in West London, and allowed Melissa to talk through performances from current musical-theatre students and previous SSSSPOTY finalists, as this year's finalists looked on.

Taking part in the performances were:

  • SSSSPOTY 2018 runner-up James Stirling, "Hello, Little Girl" from Into the Woods

  • Hannah Shunk_Hockings, a LAMDA student, "I Read" from Passion

  • Amelia Atherton, "Sunday in the Park with George";

  • SSSSPOTY 2018 finalist Emily Beresford, "Don't Laugh" from Hot Spot

  • Current RAM student Edwin Wan, "Finishing the Hat".

The theme of the masterclass was "What It Means to Sing The Story", and focussed on the need to act through song – a vital aspect of the Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year.

Melissa will be performing her Sondheim Sublime cabaret at the Crazy Coqs from 6–8 May, and the Society has a booking for the Tuesday evening - book here.

SSSSPOTY will be held at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on Sunday 9 June – book here.

And on Monday, the Society will be hosting a showcase from 12 students of the Royal Academy of Music, hosted by RAM alumna Alex Young – book here.
