ALEX YOUNG & FRIENDS - Part 2

Alex Young's sell-out cabaret at Upstairs at the Gatehouse enjoyed a repeat performance for one more night... a celebration of Stephen Sondheim, musical-theatre classics and some new writing for the stage.

Alex Young, star of the critically acclaimed Into the Woods at Theatre Royal Bath and the recent revival of Anyone Can Whistle at the Southwark Playhouse, invited us to a second evening of cabaret featuring the songs of Stephen Sondheim and some of the most acclaimed songwriters for the stage.

With the help of some of her glamorous showbiz mates - and recent finalists from The Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year competition - Alex shared stories and songs from her amazing career, which includes starring roles in Follies (National Theatre), Show Boat, Carousel and South Pacific.

Guests:

Alastair Brookshaw - whose Sondheim credits include Into the Woods (Belfast), A Little Night Music (Watermill) and Sweeney Todd (ENO) as well as roles in High Society, Caroline or Change, She Loves Me, The Grand Tour, Parade and Cabaret.

Jordan Broatch - who recently starred as Hapgood alongside Alex in Anyone Can Whistle (Southwark Playhouse), as well as Avatar in Lift, also at Southwark, and who's currently in rehearsals for 42 Balloons (Vaudeville).

Joining Alex & Co. were joined by MD Ryan MacKenzie, and winner of the 2022 SSSSPOTY cometition, Desmonda Cathabel, prior to her appearance in the upcoming From Here to Eternity. We also got the chance to hear from the three SSSSPOTY reserves, who didn't get their chance in the limelight at the Sondheim Theatre earlier this year: Izi Maxwell, Mackenzie Larsen and Tom Watson.
