Save the date! Actress, singer and comedienne Sooz Kempner will be bringing her own, unique take on Sondheim to the October Stephen Sondheim Society Presents... cabaret at the Phoenix Artist Club next month.
The monthly Sondheim cabarets, which showcase young, emerging talent as well as existing West End regulars, run at Soho's favourite basement venue – The Phoenix Artist Club, beneath the Phoenix Theatre – and on 7th October, Sooz will be taking the lead in her own Sondheim-inspired show celebrating her love for her favourite composer-lyricist.
First heard at the Edinburgh Festival in 2015, Side by Sooz by Sondheim promises "well-known hits joined by lesser-known songs from a career that spans almost 70 years (Sondheim's, not Sooz's). Sooz trained in musical theatre at the Royal Academy of Music and has performed in musicals including The Wizard of Oz, City of Angels and Sondheim's Assassins (twice). Warning: May also contain witty/tragic patter. And special guests."
"sung brilliantly and with excellent comic timing" - The Public Reviews
"...the real surprise of the evening is Suzanna Kempner... delivering the melancholy 'Alone And Yet Alive' with utter conviction." - The Stage
"The voice of an angel but the soul of something much darker... she will have you laughing like a drain." - Red In The Face
"Kempner’s incredibly infectious smile holds the attention for an hour without any lull, building up to a stunning finale where she really shows off her lungs. This is a woman who belongs on a stage." - Chortle
Tickets on sale now: 7.30pm on Monday 7th October, at the Phoenix Artist Club.
