Company nominated for nine Tony Awards

Marianne Elliott's gender-flipped Company has earned nine Tony Award nominations, including nods for Best Revival and Best Director.

The Broadway transfer from London of the Elliott & Harper Productions smash hit has proved to be as popular in the city it celebrates as it was in the West End (where it also secured nine nominations in the Olivier Awards). In the 2022 Tony Award nominations announcement, the show is listed for:

  • Best Musical Revival - up against Caroline, or Change and The Music Man

  • Best Featured Actor (Musical) for Matt Doyle (Jamie) - up against Sidney DuPont (Paradise Square), Jared Grimes (Funny Girl), John-Andrew Morrison (A Strange Loop) and A.J. Shively (Paradise Square)

  • Best Featured Actress (Musical) for Patti LuPone (Joanne) and Jennifer Simard (Sarah) - up against Jeannette Bayardelle (Girl From the North Country), Shoshana Bean (Mr. Saturday Night), Jayne Houdyshell (The Music Man) and L Morgan Lee (A Strange Loop)

  • Best Director (Musical) for Marianne Elliott - up against Stephen Brackett (A Strange Loop), Conor McPherson (Girl From the North Country), Lucy Moss and Jamie Armitage (SIX: The Musical) and Christopher Wheeldon (MJ)

  • Best Orchestrations for David Cullen - up against Simon Hale (Girl From the North Country), Jason Michael Webb and David Holcenberg (MJ), Charlie Rosen (A Strange Loop) and Tom Curran (SIX: The Musical)

  • Best Lighting Design (Musical) for Neil Austin - up against Bradley King (Flying Over Sunset), Natasha Katz, (MJ), Donald Holder (Paradise Square), Tim Deiling (SIX: The Musical) and Jen Schriever (A Strange Loop)

  • Best Scenic Design (Musical) for Bunny Christie - up against Beowulf Boritt and 59 Productions (Flying Over Sunset), Derek McLane and Peter Nigrini (MJ), Allen Moyer (Paradise Square) and Arnulfo Maldonado (A Strange Loop)

  • Best Sound Design (Musical) for Ian Dickinson/Autograph - up against Simon Baker (Girl From The North Country), Paul Gatehouse (SIX: The Musical), Drew Levy (A Strange Loop) and Gareth Owen (MJ).

Good luck to all of the nominees!

One glaring omission, of course, is Katrina Lenk as the show's star. She is among a number of high-profile names - including Daniel Craig, Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick and Beanie Feldstein - snubbed in this year's nominations.

Company continues at the the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre. Find out more about the production, and book tickets, here.
