---------------------------------------------

It's been a while since The Stephen Sondheim Society has produced a cabaret, but that's all changing this month with ALEX YOUNG & FRIENDS in cabaret at Upstairs at the Gatehouse!

The star of Anyone Can Whistle (Southwark), Into the Woods (Theatre Royal Bath) and of course Follies (National Theatre) will be joined by some of her showbiz chums for an evening at the piano with MD Joe Bunker, serving up a spread of Sondheim favourites, a smattering of classics from the musical-theatre songbook and - honouring Steve's wish to support new writing - some songs from recently completed musicals.

Among those joining Alex will be Desmonda Cathabel, winner of this year's Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year competition. Desmonda wowed the judges with her spirited "The Miller's Son", and she deservingly took home the £1,000 first prize. Here's a chance to catch this incredible talent before she heads into From Here to Eternity (with fellow SSSSPOTY finalist Cassius Hackforth).

Also being invited back from SSSSPOTY 2022 will be the three reserves, who sadly didn't get a chance to perform the songs they'd spent so long working up for the competition: Izi Maxwell, Mackenzie Larsen and Tom Watson. You heard them singing in the opening group number, but now's your chance to hear them up close, personal... and solo!

Keeping everything ticking along from the piano will be MD Joe Bunker (Rags, Park Theatre; The Rink, Southwark Theatre; My Fair Lady, Mill at Sonning; Assassins, Pleasance).

Tickets cost £20 (£18 concs), with members of the Society enjoying a 20% discount (check emails for details)

So, don't miss the chance to catch these wonderful young performers as they salute the God of Musical Theatre, Stephen Sondheim! BOOK NOW!
