Sondheim Festival in Kilkenny

The Watergate Theatre in Kilkenny, Ireland, will play host in July to The Sondheim Festival, a two-day celebration of Sondheim and his collaborators.

According to the event's Twitter announcements:

  • Paint your own piece of amazing art inspired by Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George - under the guidance of our guest artist, whilst sipping on a glass of bubbles! (3-5pm, Saturday 23 July)

  • "Singing Sondheim 1:1" - a day-long performance masterclass by Musical Director and Conductor Cathal Synnott (10 am-6.30 pm on Saturday 23 July)

  • Enjoy pitting your wits against friends, family and fellow theatre lovers in "The Great Big Musical Theatre Quiz" hosted by Ireland AM’s celebrity chef and theatre aficionado, Edward Hayden.

  • Join us as we walk "Into the Woods" at Kilkenny Castle Park on a sunny Sunday morning! Kids (and big kids!) are invited to dress as their favourite fairy tale character to help support Ireland’s national children’s cancer charity, Aoibheann’s Pink Tie.

  • Award-winning Kilkenny-based Michelle Treacy Millinery is delighted to collaborate with The Sondheim Festival on "Finishing The Hat", with an insightful, fun and interesting demonstration.

  • "I Know Things Now": Cathal Synnott explores how Stephen Sondheim has been represented on the Irish stage, and shares his personal experiences of working on some of Sondheim’s greatest creations at The Gate Theatre.

  • Fresh from conducting West Side Story In Concert at Bord Gais Energy Theatre, David Hayes, one of Ireland’s leading Musical Directors in Music Theatre, leads a choral workshop and explores the iconic finale to Sunday in the Park with George.

  • Tony Award® nominee and Emmy winner Liz Callaway will close The Sondheim Festival with a gala concert, In Good Company: Liz Callaway Sings Sondheim (8 pm, Sunday 24)
