Company wins two Evening Standard Awards

Company's Director Marianne Elliott and star Rosalie Craig both took home trophies at the 2018 Evening Standard Theatre Awards, which took place this evening at London's Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.

Elliott won the Milton Shulman Award for Best Director while Craig won for Best Musical Performance.

Company received four nominations, but lost out on two, to Hamilton for Best Musical and Miriam Buether for Best Design (The Jungle, Young Vic/Playhouse).

Craig fought off stiff competition from Sharon D Clarke (Caroline, or Change), Arinzé Kene (Misty), Kelli O’Hara (The King and I) and Adrienne Warren (Tina). For the Directing award, Elliott saw off Stephen Daldry (The Inheritance), Robert Hastie (The York Realist), Phyllida Lloyd (Tina) and Ian Rickson (Translations).

The Awards is now in its 64th year, making it the UK's longest-running theatrical awards ceremony. Sondheim won the "Special Award" in 1989, and his shows have won multiple times over the years: Merrily We Roll Along (2013), Sweeney Todd (2012 and 1980), Passion (2010 and 1996), Into The Woods (1990), Follies (1987), A Little Night Music (1975) and West Side Story (1958) have all won Best Musical.

In 2006, Timothy Bird (projections) and David Farley (set and costumes) won Best Design for Sunday in the Park With George; Imelda Staunton won Best Musical Performance for Gypsy in 2015; and in 1990, Richard Jones won Best Director for Into The Woods.

Her win tonight is Rosalie Craig's second for Best Musical Performance, an award she first took home in 2013 for The Light Princess.

Congratulations to Marianne and Rosie for the wins!
